Give Me a Suggestion or Two

Short and sweet: how can I streamline my grading policy?

I would like to make it clearer and cleaner. I'd also like for the grades to be a broad reflection of your performance throughout the class.

What would you change?

I think the grading is pretty good, actually. The ONE thing I think would be nice is to have the assignments in order of when they are due, because I was really confused by the list at first.

Thanks for a fun several weeks of Wednesdays!!

I agree with Robin, some more specific titles would be great for the assignments, OR you could group assignments by type- ie- blog entries, quizzes etc instead of chronologically. How about some wordart thrown in there? A hyperlink or two and some sound effects would really make my 4 out of 5 on all quizzes pop!

Kidding. This was a fun class for me, thanks for making me feel technologically literate- or at least technically literate? Maybe just literate. Anyway! Thanks!

I'm not sure about improving the grading policy, I thought it was efficient and easy to understand. There was an assessment almost every class, which I liked. Maybe I would have liked more detail in the subject matter and testing?, more of a challenge, but that isn't really grading policy. I did like the variety of types of assignments, and while the class was easy, I did learn and I enjoyed it.

The grading policy is actually really clear and simple. Sometimes I wish there was more weight put on some of the homework assignments, since they took a while to finish, but whatever, I still learned something from doing them.

Looking back on my blog posts, I wish that I had waited until I after class to post in most cases. At the end of class, I get really distracted and clearly don't always write complete coherent sentences. If this portion could be turned into a bigger reflection assignment, that would be cool.

Regardless, thanks for a fun class!

The grading policy is pretty great, however I would consider making the assignments and expectations a bit clearer for students. The weekly assessments and assignments were helpful to keep us on task and to utilize what we learned. I agree with Lizzy that the assignments could have been a larger portion of our grade (like the blue print and lesson plan). In addition, having the content assessed in addition to the use of technology would be really helpful. Perhaps you could implement some sort of peer content assessment and match students together based on their desired grade level/area of interest.
Thank you for a wonderful class. I'll miss our weekly meetings!

I agree with Lizzy regarding adjusting how some assignments are weighted, based on differences in how long they took to do. I also agree with Robin about the "check grades" page--a little chaotic in terms of arrangement.

Overall though, I feel grading was well communicated to us at the beginning and applied with fairness throughout. In this sense it is a broad reflection (basing this on my own class participation scores).

Thanks for the experience--looking forward to applying what we learned from you and each other in my classrooms!

I agree with Lizzy and Robin about the ordered list and homework weighting, but I thought that the grading policy was clear from the beginning, and I liked that we felt free to ask about our grades if we felt there was something wrong with them. I also agree with Lizzy that we should have waited to do our blog posts until the next day, because mine were also not as coherent as I would have liked at 10pm.

Thanks!

I liked that you updated your grades frequently. I always knew where I stood and never had a question as to what my grade was at any point, which is the case in many classes. I agree with Robin to maybe re organize the grade sheet itself. I was always hunting for which new grade was on there. Maybe you could have different categories and then all the weeks below it. For example: (in bold) Blog Posts and total amt of points possible(and underneath) week 1, week 2, etc and then another bold title like Homework and then all the weeks.

I also liked how a lot of the homework was peer graded but I wish I had more of your input on a few things such as the Higher Order Thinking table or the PowerPoint.

Thanks again for taking the time to teach us! Hope to see you around sometime!

I would change the way the assignments are listed on blackboard, it's hard to follow sometimes. I would also take out some of the peer grading and give us some of your feedback so we can improve more.

The grading policy is pretty straightforward, but on the other hand its a little ambiguous and broad. The only thing I would say would be to give examples for individual categories in the rubric to help give people a better idea of what is expected on a given topic.

I really like the grading process in this class! I would not change a thing. I did need a few classes to get used to google docs, but now I'm a pro. Thanks for a great class :)

What about making a checklist for all of the things that we have to do (Quiz, Blog, Participation, Activity, Homework) for each class? And either each one is a point or they are a percentage of a point. That may make things more concise, but more complicated. Regardless, I agree with Ashley, I wish there was more feedback about assignments and activities.

Overall, I felt like the class was well organized. As for the grading I also felt it was organized. I would just say maybe put it into categories and in order by date. Other than that, I had a lot of fun in this class! You're a great teacher! Thanks! :)

Honestly I wouldn't really change anything. I really think that the grading in the class is super clear, and straight forward. Being clear, concise, and direct is exactly what grading is all about.

The one thing that I do not like is that we all evaluate each other. I am more likely to grade people better because I feel badly.

I think the grading policy is very clear. I understood the expectations. I think that for some assignments, they could be weighted more. And just like some other people said, the quizzes would be better if named as the topic of each week.

Thanks for a great class! I learned a lot!

Overall I think the grading was very clear and I liked that we had ongoing assessment through the quizzes. I do agree that some of the assignments should maybe be worth more points. That's about all I can think of, really.

The grading policy is good. It's pretty easy to understand and with weekly assignments and assessments both of us were able to tell if we were learning the material. I would've liked more points for some of the homework assignments because some took a long time to finish, but besides that, it was good.

Thanks so much for an awesome class!

I really liked your grading. It was nice to be graded on participation, blog, quizzes, and projects. It reflected a cross section of work. It would have been a lot simpler if the assignments were in Blackboard but I am glad they are in googledocs because it was a lot more challenging and I am now much more confident using it. Thank for a great semester!! ☺

I think a lot of the others have made some good points; peer grading for content as well as tech, more weight on some of the bigger homework assignments, and the blog as an outside of class activity. Your general grading practice is very clear. Expectations are explicit and timely and feedback is quick. Your use of peer grading and other alternative grading methods has made me think a lot about different practices that I could use as a teacher. One thing that I would recommend working on is to continue to try and make your multiple choice questions as clear and unambiguous as possible. I felt that there were a number of questions on the final that could have been answered in multiple ways. But you have always been responsive and open to arguments and that is a good thing.

Thank you for a good class.

I think the grading system was pretty clear. It is hard to say how you can adjust your grading system. If it ain't broke don't fix it I guess.

I hope all is well! I truly enjoyed the class!

It would be nice to have all the homework assignments listed under the "Homework" tab on blackboard. I think it would also be helpful to have the assignments listed in order under the "Grades" link. I know a few of us were confused about that for a little while. A little description of the homework activity would nice to just as a reminder of what we are missing, were graded on, etc. Thank you and I hope you have a great holiday season! :)
